Painted Turtle Study: Results Released!
By Camilla Garrison
Recently, The Garrison siblings, (With some help from Hannah Manning) conducted a painted turtle study on the turtles of the Crescent Pond. They think that after all the years of family members and their friends capturing turtles, all those nets have traumatized them, when all these poor turtles want is some stale bread. After about five nights of no-net turtle-feeding. The Garrison siblings had gained most of the turtles trust (By word of mouth (or should I say beak)) Yesterday's study at about 7:45PM made some important milestones. After throwing in a few pieces of bread, the turtles knew to tell their friends and come to the dock for some nice whole-wheat grain bread ends in record time, about three minutes. Later that night, the turtles trusted us so much that they would no longer swim away when they heard the splash of bread in the water and even ate out of our hands without biting! The next step in the turtle-training process it to add a board in the water for a ramp for the turtles to climb up. Look forward to more turtle updates in the near future!
